Wyandotte Animal Hospital Pet Angel Fund Saves a Cat's Life

We would like give a special thank you to all of our Wyandotte Animal Hospital clients that donate to our Pet Angel Fund. Your generosity has helped save the life of one of our client's cats named Leonardo. Leonardo was attacked by dogs and his owner was unable to afford all of the treatment that Leonardo needed to save his life. He is now doing very well and he and his owner are truly grateful.

Here is his owner's story in her own words:

"I am very grateful to the Angel Fund, without it I might have had to surrender Leonardo to a shelter where he would be caged indefinitely and maybe not even find a home because he is over a year old now. Who knows if it would even be a loving home for him? Also, how can one be certain they would not have just put him down from his injury. Many places do that because of the cost of care, and there are just too many cats to re-home. It made me sick wondering what could become of him if I could not get the surgery done. Because of the Angel Fund, Leonardo is at home with his step-brothers and step-mother, and of course his pet momma, roaming free around the house and getting cat-nip treats and lots of love.

To recap the story, Leonardo snuck out of the house when a friend opened the door, and he ran away from me, trying to catch him. He ran under a gate into the yard with pit bulls. Nothing comes out of that yard alive, but he managed to find a place under a firepit that could barely fit his body. Fortunately the neighbor was home so I had them bring the dogs into the house, and I was let in the yard to find poor Leonardo cowering under the pit. He was so grateful to see me, he gave me a hug around my neck. I didn't know his tail was injured, and had no idea his little body was bruised from the dog bites. I found the injury hours later, on Saturday evening when he was swooshing his tail and blood was on the bathroom tile floor. My stained hardwood floors wouldn't show the blood. We had to go to the er vet, and just to patch his fluffy tail cost a lot of money, and I didn't have much left to care for him properly. I just knew in my heart everything would be ok, God would provide somehow--and sure enough to my happy surprise He did provide, through the dear people who donate to the Angel Fund.

Leonardo was able to get top-notch care through the donations of Wyandotte Animal Hospital clients and the love the staff showed him. He got one of the best vets downriver to operate on his tail, all the medicines he needed and of course the cone that he really didn't want! lol. We managed to make it through the 13 days with it though. He is doing fine, his tail is getting more fur on it every day it seems. In a few months, it should be a bit fluffy again I hope.

Thank you, all who care for pets enough to donate to this fund. Animals are a blessing and often much-needed companions to their human friends. It is a proven fact people with animal companions live longer and are happier. By helping pet owners help their furry friends, you are contributing to the health and welfare of their human family as well. "
